Hey there, I’m Valerie! I’ve been a portrait photographer in the Ottawa area since 2011, and I can honestly say that I still love what I do because I have the best job in the world!
If I’m not at home editing or forgetting where I left my coffee mug, I might be making dad jokes to the unsuspecting cashier at the grocery store, or lounging out on our back porch with friends and family. I'm a mega-fan of John Mayer, I’m a little obsessed with houseplants, and I love going to hot yoga classes.
I started my photography business the same year I graduated from the photography program at Algonquin College. I started photographing weddings and portraits professionally as a side job just weeks after my graduation, and I’ve been hooked ever since! I’ve photographed 100+ weddings, dozens of families and those numbers and my passion continue to grow, especially since (finally) quitting my day job in the fall of 2018 and pursuing photography as my full time career.
In 2016, my boyfriend Stefan and I bought our first home in Sarsfield, ON. Along with our senior dachshund Eddie (who makes for a loud yet affectionate guard dog), we enjoy our quiet neighbourhood and the country lifestyle.
If I had to describe my photography style, it would be this: Real people, real moments, for real life: I’m all about capturing genuine and more candid moments. My photos are a reflection of how people felt in the moment. Rather than pose my subjects, I like to use prompts that will guarantee natural smiles and a good time. My goal is to make my photography sessions as fun as possible because I sincerely believe that in making the experience amazing, the photos will reflect that experience as well!
