Manon & Phil's Winter Wedding at Fairmont Le Chateau Montebello - Ottawa Wedding Photographer
Mar 11, 2019 | By: Valerie Miles Photography
Manon and Phil met through mutual friends one night at a local bar. They had the same group of friends, but somehow had never met, until that one night! Fast forward to about 5 years down the road, and Phil decided to pop the question to Manon in front of the fire after a day of snowshoeing at the cottage. They got married almost exactly 1 year later, minus a day!
It was a beautiful but chilly January day, which was the perfect setting considering how they got engaged! It only made sense that their venue was a luxury log cabin in the woods: the one and only Fairmont Le Château Montebello, in Montebello Quebec.
The day started off with the girls getting ready in one of the rooms upstairs. Shoutout to the Starbucks barista who's little note on the cup became the inspo behind the title of this blog post!
Besides the giant windows and abundance of natural light, I think the first thing my photographer's eyes noticed when I walked into the room was this MASSIVE chandelier!! Perfect for what ended up being one of my most favourite dress shots ever.
You know you're in for a great day ahead when the morning includes mimosas with your favourite ladies!
Ok... Confession time... I definitely LOVED the look of the carpet in the getting ready room. It obviously complimented Manon's shoes as well as Nat and Kenzie's bridesmaids' dresses... But I can't possibly be alone in thinking that it totally looks like the carpet in *gasp* The Shining?! Aaahh!!! (Click the underlined text and please tell me I'm not crazy!)
While the girls were upstairs, these handsome fellas got ready just a few steps away in the hotel.
A quick bathroom pit stop before the ceremony for a few quick touch-ups. Even the bathrooms at Montebello are photogenic!!
Then it was time to brave the cold and get some wedding party photos outside. Did we freeze our booties off? Yep. Was it worth it?! Definitely!
One of my favourite things to do for wedding party photos is to have the bride or groom stand in front of their bridesmaids or groomsmen. I then say "Ok bridesmaids, now I want you to do your best impression of the bride, and the bride is NOT ALLOWED to look back!" I can learn so much about the couple in a matter of seconds. And no matter what happens, we ALWAYS burst into laughter!
I forgive Manon for breaking the rule. I'll accept it! ;)
And of course, I had to do the same with the gents!
I'm OBSESSED with this photo of Manon in her stunning vintage-inspired dress. There's just so much beauty packed into it!
And of course, we just had to sneak in a few more photos on our way to the reception.
I love the idea of turning artwork into a guestbook! For their canvas, they chose one of my favourites from their springtime engagement session.
Definitely one of my favourite parts of a wedding day is the speeches! So many funny or emotional memories are shared from the people that are closest to the bride and groom. At their wedding, Phil's brother brought up probably the FUNNIEST (and possibly most embarrassing) thing I've ever heard in a wedding speech! It had to do with how Phil's brother and Manon met for the first time... but I'm not going to write it here because Manon would probably kill me! But believe me when I say it had us all crying of laughter.
...And that's a wrap! What an honour it was to be able to capture this beautiful day. I wish nothing but the best to this awesome couple!
